About six years ago, Adriana González started attending classes on sewing, popcicles making, manual arts, and textile painting at the San Eugenio Community Center, in La Morita near Tijuana, Mexico.
Since 1996 the Oblates of the San Eugenio de Mazenod Mission have been ministering to thousands of the more than 300,000 men, women and children many who like Adriana live in the Colonia La Morita and surrounding areas, on the outer edge of the city of Tijuana.
At the Oblates run Community center Adriana has learned how to make costume jewelry and is now completing her high school diploma.
“I have opened up and have learned more than just how to make things…” says Adriana.
Today, Adriana is self-sufficient; she makes school uniforms and bags, as well as apple popcicles and jewelry that she sells to her children´s friends and to others in the community. She also teaches manual arts to other women at the Center. Adriana’s teachers have taught her that her life is important and that she has something to give to others.
